This is actually my personal favorite on the upcoming album, not because I think its quote on quote the ‘best’. But because this song encapsulates me as a person so well. Almost like a thesis statement. It started as a guitar part. I kept playing through the chord progression (mostly all power chords) and the repeating riff. My favorite line I wrote for it is “and back at 17, I thought New York City would save me”. Coming from a girl who now live laugh loves CA.

I Watch the Rain
-
I wrote “I watch the rain” when I was around 20 years old. I had a moment of feeling misunderstood, and at that age it felt completely catastrophic. When I was writing the lyrics in my room, I genuinely wrote down what I physically saw- which was rain falling on my window. That’s how this song started.
One thing I remember that felt special, was the vocal recording process. I loved singing that second chorus, it was technically challenging - but emotionally, I kind of had to dig into it. Singing from that raw of a place was new.

Carousel

First song, that I truly trusted another musician to collaborate from the ground up; in a compositional sense. Me and Nick started off with a blank page. He showed me a piano riff (that is now the intro) and we built it practically section by section. I think one stark memory is genuinely finishing the song 3 days before needing to perform it for my grad recital, and all the laughter from testing each and every idea we both had. It was “super blast” as Nick said.

a little bit about me
Hi! I’m Ashley, a Korean American artist based in Los Angeles. I grew up in the South Bay (LA) surrounded by music and the coast, both of which shaped me.
My style leans pop, but my songwriting process is never limited to that. You’ll hear touches of indie/dream pop and influences of jazz, folk, and alt. woven into my sound. Right now, I’m working on a self-titled debut album, coming in early 2027! Mostly collaborating with friends/artists I’ve met during my time at CalArts and cool people I’ve met through playing shows + work :)
No matter the genre, it always comes back to the same thing for me; honest songwriting and stories I’ve gathered straight from my own life. And having the sincere faith to create something with it all.
